Sprites, characters, and maps for Keys to Wonderland. The team at Madvox Games provided me with the overall layout, then I drew the base map plus tiles, pickups, and characters. As a fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to squeeze in a few easter eggs–not to mention Dinah herself, now as a dog!

Pickups & Environment
Chests and pickups from Keys to Wonderland. It’s not an Alice game without size-changing and card suits!
Graveyard tiles that often hid basic keys, plus the secret collectible potion that could be used to grow bigger or smaller as needed. The pill is an essential piece to the puzzle, hidden in plain sight.
Tiles used on the map for Keys to Wonderland.
This set began as assets for a maze game using Keys as a base that would later become Dinah’s Dreamwoods. Since we went for a traditional autumn theme instead, these tiles went unused.
Characters and Ending Artwork
Concepts for the player character, Dinah. Since her sprite is so small, I scrapped details like dew claws and kept a simple fur pattern. The inverted-heart shape at the base of her tail mimics the shape of a spade, the same as the final key to Alice’s cage.
Dinah’s base walking sprites.
The Cheshire Cat, the patrolling enemy in Wonderland. He’s a simple white cat and many times larger than Dinah. Just like the original, parts of him can appear and disappear at a whim.
The claws of the Cheshire Cat as it catches you.
You only see the whole body of the Cheshire Cat during the two ending sequences. All you see during gameplay are its eyes or claws.
Alice’s design is quite straightforward, her cage marked with the same color and shape as the spade key. The flamingos would have marked where the Cheshire Cat patrols; pawprints are used in the final game instead.
“You got lost in the darkness…” A bad ending scene that appears when Dinah’s light runs out.
“Caught by the Cheshire Cat” The bad end if the Cheshire Cat catches Dinah; she gets locked up alongside Alice.
